Ok so Cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh is quite a distance . Based on "Pedal for Scotland" organisation, the total distance is about 51 miles !! (82Km !!)
For amateurs (eg: us.....) there will come a time where people get cramps and exhausted from cycling a long uphill road. (NB: Our first attempt took us around 12hrs to reach our hostel..... yup, I'm not kidding...)
So, to some newbies, after going through that "torture", they get traumatised by the thought of having to cycle the same route all the way back to Glasgow. ( Keeps me thinking I'm burning lots of fat...)
"ARRRRGH !! Any Solution ?!? Or should I just Give up, take a train and Fed Ex my bike to Glasglow ? "
Don't worry !!! ^_^ This is because the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow and vice-versa provides a place where you can put your bike on the train with NO EXTRA CHARGES ! WooHoo !! Now you and your bike can share the lovely journey back together.
Things you may need to know when using the train. 1) There are 2 different stations where Train will stop in Glasgow. One will stop at Queen St. and the other at Central Station.
Queen St. is opposite George Square so this would be a good place to get off from the train.
2) The place where you are suppose to store your bike is at the very front of the train. ( and if I'm not wrong, there is also a place at the very back of the train.) They provide "seat-belts" for your bike so that it doesn't "fly around" in the train. At each end of the train, they only have a space to securely store 12 bikes.
3) When it comes to buying train tickets, make sure you are getting the best out of your buck. For instance, get 3 or more friends (+ you ) to buy the tickets as there is this kind of promotion where your tickets are cheaper!! Its much cheaper if you take a train on a weekday. (about 4++ Pounds*, Glasgow-Edinburgh-Glasgow)
For weekends, it will be slightly more. We left on a weekend and therefore it cost us 6.45 Pounds*. This ticket not only allows us to go back to Glasgow, but there is also a return ticket to Edinburgh. We didn't need the return ticket but you will be surprise that with the return ticket included, it is cheaper than paying a one-way ticket.
* Prices are subjected to change. Based on thier Big Boss' mood.
You want to shop at the city centre of Edinburgh ( Around Princes Street ) or maybe you wanna see the famous Edinburgh Castle up the hill But, you are still carrying a Big , Heavy Rucsack with you, and your back is sore; your shoulders are about to pop out from your sockets. And your baby-->bike needs to be locked at a proper place. AAARGH !! What to do ?!?!
Don't worry !! ^_^ Cause all you have to do is look for the "National Gallery of Edinburgh" ! There, you have a place to chain your bike and plus , at the lower ground of the National Gallery, they provide a place to keep your bag and there is someone who will guard your bag for FREE !! All you need to do is promise that you will check out the gallery. Muahahahaha !
那一夜晚感觉特别漫长,平时躺在床上5-10分钟就可以见到周公的我,竟然兴奋得睡不着。父母,seniors, 朋友的话不断在我脑海里浮现。“90公里这样远,你们哪里顶的到?”,“Go edinburgh take bus 80 pens only, y wan to ride bicycle leh?”, “哇, 你们来真的啊?”
"The wild idea to cycle around the unfamiliar land of Scotland sparkled when two enthusiastic young men were talking about their dreams. To them, however crazy the idea it seems, it would one day become real.
It is always easier said than done. At times, the heart hesitated, with shaken confidence. Nevertheless, they started planning for it."
"For the consecutive few weeks, they searched for 2nd-hand bikes. There was once they were so careless. In exchange to the damage done to a yet-to-be-sold-out bike, they were bombarded with initial-F’s vocabularies by the middle-aged owner. Strange it might sound, the owner became more and more friendly each time they visited the market. The initial-F’s words from his mouth had since then become less painful to the ears.
From a group of two, it grew to four, and then six. The captain had to shut the door closed to new members, for limited capability to manage an even bigger group.
There were once they almost being tricked by a bike-theft syndicate. For several times, they missed some great deals of bikes with tip-top conditions. How unfortunate.
Besides, all sorts of bike accessories made their wallets to shrink. All investments come with liability. They could only pray for the best. No one knows how things might turn out.
No matter how unfeasible it might seem, the group will march towards the dream, with strong determination. There would be only two outcomes – being laughed upon for harbouring an unrealistic goal, or being the last persons laughing at the end. But, who cares? Youth is itself a biggest asset – we dare to fail!"
